Whitney Port in a black bikini snacks on an apple poolside

If you needed any clue as to how Whitney Port maintains her super-slim figure the 25-year-old showed just how as she relaxed poolside in Hawaii. No greasy burger and chips for her, the reality television star snacked on a healthy apple, as she sat with boyfriend Ben Nemtin who also went wild and ordered a salad.

Whitney Port didn't let her diet slip in Hawaii as she munched on an apple at lunchtime

But Whitney could certainly afford to pile up her plate somewhat as her black and grey halternecked bikini showed off her jutting hip bones, and pin-thin legs. There isn't an inch to pinch on Whitney's 5'10' frame which weighs in at a reported 115lbs. And while her thinness has caused concern, the fledging fashion designer says she 'happy' with her body now.

Whitney's hip bones jutted out as she paraded her super-thin body on the beach; she once told a magazine she had 'never eaten pasta'

Whitney has been dating Buried Life star Ben Nemtin, 26, for the past seven months

Whitney claimed that she gained 'love handles' after leaving college and has since embarked on a strict diet and workout regime. She totally avoids carbs, sugar and fried foods and workouts regularly with a personal trainer, takes long walks, plays basketball and bike rides.

The Los Angeles native even once told US Weekly that she has 'never eaten pasta'.

The up-and-coming fashion designer relaxed pool side on day two of her Waikiki break with her boyfriend, Ben Nemtin, a 26-year-old actor and producer from the MTV reality series The Buried Life.

Whitney and Ben appeared to forget they were in public as they make out on the sunloungers

Whitney showed no evidence of the 'love handles' she claimed she gained after leaving college as she cuddled up to her actor boyfriend

They joined numerous celebrities in the Aloha state to celebrate the opening of the new Marriott Waikiki 'Edition' Hotel. Clad in an itsy-bitsy bikini, the 'City' star and her beau embarked on an afternoon stroll by the harbour before grabbing a poolside perch at their hotel.

Whitney and Ben canoodled on their lounger, and she caught up on her gossip with a copy of Us magazine. The trip to Hawaii comes as Whitney ponders her next move as she is uncertain over whether her reality show The City will continue.

'Good question - I don’t know!' the MTV reality star, 25, told UsMagazine.com
'Everything is so up in the air.'

The couple shared a couple of kisses, ate lunch and read a celebrity gossip magazine

Whitney shared a tender moment with sweetheart Ben

Currently living in Los Angeles, Port said she will probably focus on expanding her collection Whitney Eve - on the West Coast. 'My family and my friends are out here, so it's where my heart is. But I will continue to do my line, which is really what I always wanted to do anyway.

'The City is great and so much fun to do, and I'm able to share what I do with so many people, [but] it'll be OK.' In addition to her Whitney Eve collection (which just showed at New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week), she has launched a new affordable line, the Seamless Collection.

'I've made a separates collection with basically all these layering pieces, like leggings, bandeau bras and little Spandex numbers to wear under things.' Whitney has been dating Buried Life star Ben Nemtin, 23, for the past seven months. Port gushed: 'He's wonderful.'

Alex Curran shows off her curves in sequinned bikini on sunshine break in Tenerife

Much-hotter
.
As a half-term treat, it certainly beats trudging around draughty museums. Alex Curran took daughters Lilly-Ella, six, and three-year-old Lexie off to Tenerife for some early sunshine last week.

In pictures which have only just emerged, she squeezes her slender figure into a sequinned bikini as she plays with the girls on the beach. The heat - the mercury's been nudging a much-hotter-than-here 18C (64F) - went some way to explaining her Dayglo tan out shopping in overcast Liverpool.

Alex Curran escaped the winter weather to enjoy a holiday in Portugal
with her two daughters last week
.
.
Alex's husband, England player Steven Gerrard, wasn't able to join his wife due to his footballing commitments. But with both grandmothers on hand, along with Alex's friend Anneli and her son, the family had plenty of company. However, in her weekly column for OK! magazine Alex said the holiday could have been better. 'We had a nice time but the weather was awful, windy and overcast - there wasn't much time for sunbathing on the beach or by the pool,' she said.

Alex was holidaying with her daughter Lexie, 3, and Lilly-Ella, 6
And even when Alex headed off on the Wag's favourite activity - a spot of shopping - the weather caught her out. 'We did a bit of shopping at what we thought was going to be a big mall and it actually turned out to be open air, so we got soaked in the rain.'

Alex's daughters enjoyed playing on the beach

Lets hope there was room for Alex's purchases on the way home. She wrote: 'I brought huge suitcases full of stuff for the girls and I to wear. I hate packing, though – I just throw everything in.

Beautiful scenery, but Alex
said the beach trip was on a rare sunny day'

Steve always says: ‘Are you joking? You’re never going to wear all that! 'Before we went he took the girls to Madame Tussauds as they’ve unveiled a waxwork of him. The girls thought it was so funny to see a waxwork of their daddy!'

Kelly Wearstler's 6 Rules for Kitchen Design

6 Rules
.

1. Be Bold with White
When used generously, white can make just as much of a statement as color. For a client's stainless steel–and–white kitchen, Kelly Wearstler chose Calcutta marble for the countertops, walls and floor, and accessorized with a white-handled knife set. She also created copies of a vintage chinoiserie-style chandelier, then painted them glossy white.

2. Play with Color and Pattern
Hue, Wearstler's new book, is all about the power of color. For her guest house, Wearstler chose teal fabrics in different patterns from a collection she designed for Groundworks at Lee Jofa: "Sea Urchin" for the window treatment and "Confetti" trimmed with "Fretwork" for the tablecloth (from $60 a yard; leejofa.com). The trim echoes the porcelain tile floor.

3. Open Up Cabinets
In the guest house, Wearstler installed a glass front in the upper cabinets: "A mirrored back, glass shelves and interior lighting create the illusion of more space."

4. Mix Materials
Wearstler will sometimes use two or three kinds of stone in a kitchen: "You would never have two of the same big tables in a living room, so why would you want to have two islands with the same countertops?"

5. Use Pendant Lighting
"Recessed ceiling lights make everyone have raccoon eyes," Wearstler says. "Chandeliers are so much sexier." In the kitchen of her guest house, she hung a vintage Murano glass chandelier from Paris to create a dramatic focal point over the table.

6. Hide Paper Towels
One of Wearstler's biggest pet peeves is seeing paper towel rolls on the counter: "It's not very glamorous," she says. "It looks like toilet paper hanging out in the kitchen." In her own kitchen, she hides the roll by hanging it vertically inside the cabinet door under the sink. For clients who like leaving the holder out, Wearstler compromises by recessing it in the island, as in the steel-and-white kitchen.

Perfume For Women: How to Mix Your Own

Use perfume bottles you already have to get your own favorite scent

Unless you happen to be watching an episode of The Real Housewives (take your pick of cities), you aren't apt to see women dripping in head-to- toe logos these days. That's because the focus right now is on creating a customized vibe that's all your own. "It's a reaction to all the sameness out there in terms of clothes, shoes, and even fragrances. Women are searching for things that are different. They don't want to look—or smell—like everyone else," says Karen Grant, an analyst with NPD, a worldwide market research firm.

Which may be why the trend of scent layering is catching on. "If you love two scents apart, chances are you will also love them together," says Susanne Langmuir, a perfumer in Toronto. Start with one of these four universal notes, and then marry it with one of its suggested pairings, or play around on your own.

Blending for Beginners

Vanilla, white florals, musk, and marine scents (those ocean, fresh air, and cut-grass smells) are the four most universal fragrance notes, says Langmuir. They're the cornerstones of most fragances, and they pair beautifully with loads of other scents. So Pick your favorite, then start spritzing.

Mix this...Vanilla

Try Sula Vanilla Blossom ($32, ulta.com) or Prada L'Eau Ambree ($76, neimanmarcus.com)

with one of these...Rich woody fragrances (like those with dominant cedar or tobacco notes); grapefruit scents; eaus that feature white flowers, like gardenia

Try Bath & Body Works Twilight Woods ($29.50, bathandbodyworks.com) or Lancome Hypnose Senses ($49, macys.com)

and you'll get..."Vanilla goes with everything," Langmuir says. "It lends sweetness to a woody scent, and when a citrus, you'll get a Creamsicle smell. Florals give vanilla a flirty, tropical playfulness that's sensual and decadant."

Mix this...White Florals

Try Jo Malone Tuberose ($55, jomalone.com) or Marc Jacobs ($70, sephora.com)

with one of these...Oriental scents with heady spices like incense, cardamom, or clove

Try Tokyomilk Ex Libris Parfum ($28, beautyhabit.com) or D&G 6 L'Amoureux ($65, sephora.com)

and you'll get..." White flowers like gardenia, tuberose, neroli, jasmine, and frangipani make anything you layer them with more feminine," Langmuir says. "This combination creates a beautifully balanced perfume with a powdery with a powerdery, vintage-like, soft-yet-sexy quality."

Mix this...Musk

Try The Body Shop White Musk Midnight Iris ($17, thebodyshop.com) or StellaNude ($63, sephora.com)

with one of these...Soft "green floral" scents, like those with violet; fragrances that have a dominant citrus aroma, like lemon

Try YSL Parisienne ($65, sephora.com) or A Scent by Issey Miyake ($65, neimanmarcus.com)

and you'll get..."Fresh scents like green floral and citrus lighten up musk without masking its inherent sexiness," Langmuir says. It's the equivalent of paring jeans with a hot top.
Mix this...Marine

Try Tocca Aqua Profumata Amalfi ($38, sephora.com) or Pucci Acqua 330 ($59, sephora.com)

with one of these...Soft floral perfumes that feature lily of the valley or honeysuckle

Try Clean Ultimate ($69, sephora.com) or Couture Couture by Juicy Couture ($65, bloomingdales.com)

and you'll get..."The clean laundry or ocean scents are somewhat unisex, so adding floral notes makes them smell softer and prettier," Langmuir says. "It's like walking into a flower shop: You smell a fresh, pleasing mix of green stems immersed in cold water and fragrant blossoms in full bloom."

Playground Workout

Parks are filled with fitness equipment--swings, benches, and monkey bars. Here's how to use them to tone up

WHY THE PARK? It has great tools, like swings, benches, and monkey bars. We asked exercise physiologist Tom Holland, a personal trainer in Darien, Connecticut, to put a new spin on some of his favorite moves of all time--squats, lunges, and chinups.

Do the moves as a circuit--going immediately from one move to the next. That's one set. Rest for two minutes, then repeat for a total of three sets. Nice work. You've earned a trip to the Good Humor truck.

Anna Wintour Assumed the Election Already Happened

and lo, she looked upon her work and declared it good

Vogue's November issue features four generations of the ladies in Joe Biden's life. "All The Potential Vice President's Women" just didn't have the same ring to it, so Anna Wintour went ahead and just stated the winner of the election. Forget Gerard Butler, Anna Wintour's new man is named Nate Silver.

The Best Fitness Foods for Women

FITNESS FOODS

Avocados

The cholesterol-lowering monounsaturated fat in these green health bombs can help keep your body strong and pain free. University of Buffalo researchers found that competitive women runners who ate less than 20 percent fat were more likely to suffer injuries than those who consumed at least 31 percent. Peter J. Horvath, Ph.D., a professor at the university, speculates that the problem is linked to extreme low-fat diets, which weaken muscles and joints. "A few slices of avocado a day are a great way to boost fat for women who are fat shy," says Leslie Bonci, R.D., director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Whole Grain Bagels

Never mind Dr. Atkins—carbs are the optimal workout food. "Not the simple ones, because they wind you up and drop you down," says Jackie Berning, Ph.D., R.D., a nutrition professor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and counselor to sports teams. "You want complex carbohydrates in their natural package, aka whole grains." A whole-grain bagel is an ideal pre-sweat-session pick: You'll digest it slowly because of all the fiber, which will deliver a steady flow of energy over time rather than one big burst.

Bananas

Thanks to bananas' high potassium content, peeling one is a speedy solution to that stitch in your side. While a lack of sodium is the main culprit behind muscle cramps, studies show potassium plays a supporting role: You need it to replace sweat losses and help with fluid absorption. Bananas are also packed with energizing carbohydrates. One medium-size fruit has 400 milligrams of potassium and as many carbs (29 grams) as two slices of whole-wheat bread.

Berries

USDA researchers recently placed fresh berries on their list of the 20 foods richest in antioxidants. Just a handful of blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries is an excellent source of these potent nutrients, which protect muscles from free radical damage that might be caused by exercise. Shop for berries by the shade of their skin: The deeper the color, the healthier the fruit.

Carrots

Close your eyes and they almost taste like crunchy candy। Carrots pack complex carbs that provide energy to muscles and potassium to control blood pressure and muscle contractions, says Leslie Bonci, R।D. And a half cup has just 35 calories.

Whole Grain Cereal

Looking for something to nosh before you hit the gym? Raid your cereal stash. The healthiest brands contain endurance-boosting complex carbs and muscle-building protein. Sixty minutes before a workout, fuel up with a 200-calorie snack: ¾ cup of whole-grain cereal with 4 ounces of fat-free milk. "When you eat something before exercising, you have more energy, so you can work out harder and perhaps longer. And you'll be less likely to overeat afterward," says Leslie Bonci, R.D.

Chicken Thighs

Skimp on iron and zinc and your energy will flag। Cooking up some juicy chicken thighs or turkey drumsticks is the best way to get more of both. "Dark-meat poultry is significantly lower in fat than red meat yet has all the iron, zinc, and B vitamins that women need in their diets," says Seattle sports nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D., author of Power Eating.

Chocolate Milk

There's way more to milk than just calcium. In fact, it's a damn near perfect food, giving you a lot of valuable energy while keeping your calorie count low, says nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D. The chocolate kind is loaded with calcium, vitamins, and minerals just like the plain stuff, but new studies confirm that milk with a touch of cocoa is as powerful as commercial recovery drinks at replenishing and repairing muscles.

Low Fat Cottage Cheese

Despite its frumpy image, this diet staple packs 14 grams of protein per half-cup serving, along with 75 milligrams of calcium and 5 grams of carbohydrates. That protein is crucial to healing the microscopic muscle tears that occur during exercise, says Amy Jamieson-Petonic, R.D., health education manager at Cleveland's Fairview Hospital.

Cranberries

This packable fruit delivers a generous pre- or postworkout blast of carbohydrates (25 grams per ¼ cup)। Plus, cranberries have proanthocyanins, compounds that help prevent and fight urinary tract infections. Running to the bathroom every 5 minutes definitely isn't the kind of workout you need.

Eggs

Don't skip the yolk. One egg a day supplies 215 milligrams of cholesterol—not enough to push you over the 300-milligram daily cholesterol limit recommended by the American Heart Association. Plus, the yolk is a good source of iron, and it's loaded with lecithin, critical for brain health, says nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D. What does brain power have to do with exercise? Try doing a sun salutation without it.

Ground Flaxseed

"Flaxseed is full of fibers called lignans that promote gut health," says nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D. Since flax lignans contain both soluble and insoluble fiber, they keep you regular. "When you're trying to do an endurance sport, it can be disruptive to have digestive problems," she notes. A daily dose of 1 to 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed tossed in your cereal nets you fiber without fuss.

Hummus

Complex carbohydrates, protein, and unsaturated fats—all the right elements to fuel activity—meet in one healthy little 70-calorie, 3-tablespoon package. Plus, hummus is often made with olive oil, which contains oleic acid—a fat that helps cripple the gene responsible for 20 to 30 percent of breast cancers, according to Northwestern University researchers.

Oranges

"They're portable. They're a fruit you can get year-round. And they're a rich source of vitamin C," says Leslie Bonci, R.D., "which helps repair muscle tissue." One orange has all the C a woman needs each day—close to 75 milligrams. Vitamin C is also key for making collagen, a tissue that helps keep bones strong.

Peanuts

No wonder Mr। Peanut never stops tap-dancing. Female soccer players kicked and sprinted just as well in the final minutes of a game as they did at the start when they added 2 ounces of peanuts a day to their regular diet, says University of Buffalo professor, Peter J. Horvath, Ph.D. The extra fat may help improve endurance by giving muscles energy to burn up front so they can spare muscle glycogen stores later.

Potatoes

Sweat like a pig? Four shakes of salt (about 1,100 milligrams of sodium) and a small baked potato is the perfect recipe for electrolyte replacement. "The electrolytes, sodium and potassium, help maintain fluid balance in and around cells and make sure muscles contract as they need to," says Leslie Bonci, R.D.

Salmon

Great for heart health, but here's an added twist: New studies are suggesting that monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fats might help lessen abdominal fat. It's too soon to understand the link, but "this could be particularly good for women working to tone their core," says nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D.

These five athletes have unbeatable beauty skills

Game Faces. Check out their get-gorgeous strategies

Jennie Finch

Pitcher, 28

2004 Olympic gold medalist; 2003 Pan Am Games gold medalist; NCAA winning streak (60 games, 2000-2002)

"It's not easy playing softball in Arizona--I'm in the sun 16 to 20 hours a week. Luckily, I have an awesome sunscreen, La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL. And I swear by Natural Advantage moisturizer for protecting me from sun spots. My poor feet also get beaten up when I pitch, because I'm always dragging my right toe through the dirt। I travel with a big tub of Aquaphor skin ointment. My 2-year-old son, Ace, has eczema, so I grease him up, then slather it on any spot on my skin that's really dry.

When my hair's not in a ponytail, I style it with a wide-barrel curling iron and PureOlogy ShineMax to fight frizz। As for manicures, I don't get them during the season--I need my calluses for pitching!"

"I bring this with me everywhere."LaRoche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+ ($50 for two, amazon.com)

Gretchen Bleiler

Snowboarder, 27

2006 Olympic silver medalist

"In our sport, you've got to be tough, but you can also be feminine, which I am। I mean, I live out of my Travelon cosmetics case. I love it! It holds everything--a hair dryer, my Vincent Longo lip gloss, Kiss My Face Hand Alert lotion, Shu Uemura Depsea Water Facial Mist (in rose--it totally refreshes), and baby powder (if you rub it on your back and under your arms, you'll stay fresh on a long trip).

I'm the worst person I could be when it comes to my hair: On really cold days, it actually freezes! And my hair gets really dried out from the sun and wind. I wash it a couple of times a week with Herbal Essences Color Me Happy shampoo and conditioner। On my skin, I use Bio Essentials cleanser and toner--they're easy on the skin. In the summer, when I ride the glacier at Mount Hood [Oregon], the sun is so intense I wear a helmet, goggles, and a bandana. I also use Mission Daily Offense SPF 30 sunscreen. It's water- and sweat-resistant, which is great, because you really break a sweat hiking up the half pipe."
"This is the most wonderful-smelling lotion ever."Kai Body Lotion ($30 for 8 oz, kaifragrance.com)

"This gets rid of tangles."Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist ($10 for 6.8 oz, paulmitchell.com)

"My hands get so dried out on planes."Kiss My Face Hand Alert ($9 for 3 oz, kissmyface.com)

Mikele Barber

Sprinter, 27

2007 World Outdoor 4x100 gold medalist; 2007 Pan Am Games 100-meter gold medalist, 4x100 silver medalist

"Usually people who run track don't have pretty feet, but I take good care of mine. I'll slather on something really thick, like Body Butter from The Body Shop, then slip my feet into plastic bags and let them marinate. Sometimes my sister paints a design on my big toe after I get a pedicure. When it comes to makeup, I keep it simple, but I make my eyes dramatic with L'Oreal Voluminous mascara and smoky eyeliner। Mac Lipglass in Oh Baby is my number-one must-have. I feel naked without it. I even wear it when I run."

Me'Lisa Barber
Sprinter, 27
2006 World Indoor 60 meter champion

"We work out for seven hours a day--and three or four of them are in the sun--so my skin and hair dry out। I buy Vitamin E, A & D Moisturizing Cream at GNC and put it on my face every night. I also love anything to do with my hair--it could be extensions or going to a salon to get it done--and I use a leave-in conditioner every day (I love KeraCare products). My other beauty must: perfume. I like scents that aren't strong but that make people say 'Hey--what's that?' when they walk by."

"I slick my hair back with this gel."SoftSheen Carson Let's Jam gel ($4 for 4.4 oz, drugstore.com)

"I have several bottles of Kenzo fragrances।"KenzoAmour ($50 for 1 oz, sephora.com)

"This stays on forever."Mac Lipglass in Oh Baby ($14, maccosmetics.com)

"Shea butter is thick enough to take care of my feet."The Body Shop Shea Body Butter ($20 for 6.9 oz, thebodyshop.com)

Kassia Meador

Surfer, 26

8 titles worldwide since 2004; 2nd place, 2008 Roxy Longboard Festival (Australia)

"Want to know my best beauty tip? Surfing। I think the salt helps my hair texture. And because I'm in the sun, my cheeks are always rosy. But the saltwater sucks moisture out of my skin. A good lotion, like Eucerin, is a must; so is sunscreen. For my body, I use Coppertone Sport spray--it absorbs fast, so I don't slip off my board! I use Shiseido sunscreen cream on my face and their Sun Protection Stick on my lips. My mom always says, 'You've got your skin for your whole life, so don't be afraid to spend a little money to keep it nice.'"

"This brings out my curls."Tigi Catwalk Curls Rock ($13 for 4 oz, drugstore.com)

"A little eye makeup and I feel dressed up."Nars eyeliner in Black Moon, plus mascara ($20 and $23, narscosmetics.com)

"Surfers have been using this for years."Shiseido Sun Protection Stick SPF 35 ($21, amazon.com)

Sue Bird

Point Guard, 27

WNBA's Seattle Storm; University of Connecticut (NCAA women's basketball champions, 2000 and 2002)

"I'm the natural type when it comes to beauty। I don't wear much makeup, though I will cop to owning a tube of mascara. But when it comes to skin and hair, I've got it covered. What you'll find in my gym bag: Purell, Goody hair bands, and Herbal Essences Set Me Up hair spray--because my hair is always up in a ponytail when I play, and I can't concentrate when wispies come loose and get in my face. I don't have inherently dry skin, but I'm always practicing at the gym and have to take a lot of showers, so it can dry out. To keep it soft, I use Dove Body Wash. A lip moisturizer is another must, since I spend my winters playing basketball in Russia. Blistex DCT (Daily Conditioning Treatment) really works and leaves a nice shine. And you know the really good thing about being on a team? If you forget something, someone always has lotion or shampoo."

"I bring these into the shower."Olay Daily Facials Cleansing Cloths ($6 for 30, walgreens.com)

"When I wear a ponytail, I have to use hair spray."Herbal Essences Set Me Up hair spray ($4 for 8 oz, drugstore.com)

"This prevents cracked lips."Blistex DCT lip balm ($2, drugstore.com)

Pony up

Four easy looks that spur your ponytail on to high style

Not to sound like your high school guidance counselor, but your ponytail may not be living up to its potential। It's great to lasso your locks and tie 'em up when you're heading for a workout. But there's no reason to corral the look when you're going to work or out for dinner-- or anywhere in between. Here are four simple tail switches that will let your pony really go places.

1. The Big Tease

Work a mousse with a little hold, like Redken Touch Control ($13, cvs.com), into roots. Separate a 3-inch-wide strip, as if you were creating a Mohawk. Start about 3 inches back from your forehead and tease a 1/2-inch-wide portion with a fine-tooth comb like the Cardinal comb ($1, sallybeauty.com). Blast the teased roots with hair spray. Try Garnier Anti-Humidity Hairspray ($4, garnier.com)। Work your way back, teasing in sections। Gather hair in a high ponytail, smooth pieces from the front over the teased area, and set with hair spray.

Dress it up: Add a skinny headband. Scunci Skinny Headband, $5 for three, scunci.com; France Luxe Quarter-Inch Ultra Comfort Headband, $17, franceluxe.com; Conair Thin Is In headband, $4 for three, drugstore.com

2. Swing Low

A basic low ponytail goes from day to night with one elegant twist. Fasten hair at the base of your skull with an elastic that matches your hair color. Try L. Erickson Grab N Go Pony O elastics ($12 for three, franceluxe.com) or Goody Colour Collection hair elastics ($4 for 10, goody.com). Take a 1/2-inch-wide strip of hair from the part of the ponytail just above your neck and wind it around the elastic. Or fake it with synthetic hair — try a Tonytail Wrap ($7, tonytail.com)। Secure the end with a bobby pin.

Dress it up: Fasten a small barrette on one side of your head, about 2 inches above your ear. France Luxe Mini Oval Barrette, $9, franceluxe.com

3. With the Band

To give your workout style some flair, place a rubber-backed headband about 1/2 inch behind your hairline। Try Scunci No Slip Grip Headwraps ( $4 for eight, scunci.com). Fasten the hair in a low ponytail, then fold the tail into a U and slide the last few inches under the band. For fine strands, a light-hold spray like Bain de Terre Dual-Purpose Styler ($9, ulta.com) will tame any flyaways. For thick hair, try a pomade like Citre Shine Glossing Pomade ($4, drugstore.com)।

Dress it up: Wear an eye-catching headband. Jennifer Behr Wide Lattice headband, $62, jenniferbehr.com; Eva Scrivo Double Strand Ballerina Band, $55, evascrivosalon.com; Jennifer Behr Skinny Silver Scallop headband, $52, jenniferbehr.com. Eva Scrivo silk hairband, $55, evascrivosalon.com

4. Giddyup

If your hair is fine or squeaky-clean, you'll need to add a texturizing product, like Pantene Pro-V Texturizing Moussing Wax ($7, drugstore.com), for hold। Tie a loose, low ponytail, leaving 3 or 4 inches between the elastic and your scalp. Flip the tail to one side and push it under the elastic toward your scalp, creating a vertical roll; secure it in the middle with bobby pins. Don't worry about making a perfect, sleek updo — this style looks best a bit undone. Let a few strands fall loose and leave the back a bit messy — it's high-class and hot to trot.

Dress it up: Slide in a jeweled hair clip. Tarina Tarantino semiprecious stone Crystal Bow Barrette, $70, Velvet Bow with Swarovski crystals, $38 for two, and semiprecious stone Bee Hair Clip (also on model), $30, tarinatarantino.com
