The CW's 90210 Outdoor Campaign Did Not Get the Rabbi's Blessing

Mind-Blowingly Inappropriate for Jews

The CW network found a new contingent to exasperate via racy ad campaign, just in time for the premieres of their two biggest shows, Gossip Girl and the new 90210. No longer content to just piss off the Parent Television Council by using the PTC's disapproval to shill GG (which returned to primetime last night), Dawn Ostroff's teen scandal channel has chosen a new target for garnering free negative publicity: Brooklyn's Hasidic Jewish community.

Despite the fact that all scenes were cut where the new 90210 cast sit around at the Peach Pit eating Hawaiian pizza and discussing how the Holocaust never happened, members of Brooklyn's most famous Orthodox community have come out in against the show, which airs tonight, because of the placement of their billboards.
The ads, which feature the cast of the show in a swimming pool in their trunks and bikinis, are hardly shock-inducing — this site has been reskinned with them, and you're still alive — but they violate at least two laws of Jewdom। Normally not a problem, except the ads were slapped on the the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, which the yarmulke-inclined frequently traverse.

"In Jewish law, it is forbidden to see any part of a lady that is not dressed — and having men and women swimming together is also not permissible, even if they are fully clothed," says Rabbi David Niederman.

The CW hasn't responded, likely hoping for a juicy soundbite from the Jews to put on their next promotional campaign: "Totally not kosher."
